Fond\u00e9e en 1996, il y aura bient\u00f4t trente ans, par Christine Reynier, la SEW fait rayonner en France et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger les \u00e9tudes woolfiennes gr\u00e2ce aux colloques qu\u2019elle organise tous les deux ans dans une universit\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise (Nancy, Saint-\u00c9tienne, Aix-en-Provence, Toulouse, Montpellier, Paris, Rouen, pour ne donner que ces quelques exemples), aux ateliers communs organis\u00e9s chaque ann\u00e9e, avec la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019\u00c9tudes Modernistes, au congr\u00e8s de la SAES\u2009; gr\u00e2ce, aussi, aux nombreux \u00e9v\u00e9nements annuels qui t\u00e9moignent de la richesse des propositions \u00e9manant de ses membres en collaboration avec d\u2019autres soci\u00e9t\u00e9s savantes, milieux litt\u00e9raires et artistiques : s\u00e9minaires et cycles de s\u00e9minaires\u2009; tables rondes\u2009; ateliers de pr\u00e9paration aux colloques\u2009; rencontres anim\u00e9es par des libraires\u2009; publications d\u2019actes de colloques, monographies, articles dans des revues scientifiques, traductions, cr\u00e9ation du fonds Haberer, diffusion d\u2019une Newsletter<\/em>. Il suffit de \u00ab\u2009cliquer\u2009\u00bb sur les liens propos\u00e9s par notre site pour voir la diversit\u00e9 et la richesse de ces activit\u00e9s qui incarnent tout \u00e0 la fois l\u2019ancrage de notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 dans le monde acad\u00e9mique, et la volont\u00e9 d\u2019ouvrir celle-ci \u00e0 de nouvelles formes de participation et de contribution. Pour ce bureau comme pour les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, il s\u2019agit, en effet, d\u2019accueillir doctorants et enseignants-chercheurs, sp\u00e9cialistes du monde anglophone, mais aussi d\u2019art, d\u2019histoire, et de litt\u00e9rature compar\u00e9e, universitaires et \u00ab\u2009amateurs\u2009\u00bb \u00e9clair\u00e9s. Nos \u00ab\u2009conversations\u2009\u00bb, pour reprendre un terme cher \u00e0 l\u2019autrice d\u2019Orlando<\/em> (au programme de l\u2019agr\u00e9gation en 2024-2026 gr\u00e2ce au travail de notre ancien bureau) se veulent fid\u00e8les \u00e0 l\u2019esprit de Woolf : exigeantes, mais accessibles au \u00ab\u2009common reader\u2009\u00bb, ouvertes sur le futur sans effacer la trace des h\u00e9ritages qui les ont fait na\u00eetre, toujours dans un esprit d\u2019\u00e9changes d\u00e9mocratiques, et d\u2019ouverture aux coll\u00e8gues \u00e9trangers comme au grand public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans le m\u00eame esprit, notre site vise \u00e0 donner plus de visibilit\u00e9 aux diff\u00e9rentes manifestations qui y figurent, gr\u00e2ce notamment au talent de notre webmestre Charl\u00e8ne Dancoisne (c.dns@mailfence.com<\/a>), laquelle peut recevoir, au m\u00eame titre que notre tr\u00e9sori\u00e8re Ad\u00e8le Cassigneul (adele.cassigneul@hotmail.fr<\/a>), notre Vice-Pr\u00e9sidente Marie Laniel (marie.laniel@gmail.com<\/a>), notre Vice-Pr\u00e9sident\uff65e Val\u00e9rie Favre (vrfavre@gmail.com<\/u><\/a>) et notre secr\u00e9taire Floriane Reviron-Pi\u00e9gay (floriane.reviron.piegay@univ-st-etienne.fr<\/a>), des informations et des recommandations des membres de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, mais aussi de celles et ceux qui s\u2019int\u00e9ressent \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre de Woolf et qui souhaitent que celle-ci soit connue du plus grand nombre dans toute sa complexit\u00e9, et sa contemporan\u00e9it\u00e9. Founded in 1996, almost thirty years ago, by Christine Reynier, the SEW promotes Woolfian studies in France and abroad, thanks to the conferences it organises every two years in a French university (Nancy, Saint-\u00c9tienne, Aix-en-Provence, Toulouse, Montpellier, Paris, Rouen, to give just a few examples), the yearly joint workshops organized with the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d’\u00c9tudes Modernistes at the SAES congress, and thanks to the many annual events that testify to the significant collaboration of its members with other learned societies, literary and artistic circles: seminars and seminar cycles; round tables; preparatory workshops for symposia; meetings in cooperation with booksellers; publications of symposium proceedings, monographs, articles in scientific journals and translations; diffusion of a Newsletter<\/em>; and creation of the Adolphe Haberer Book Stock. One easy \u201cclick\u201d on the links on our website and you will see the diversity of these activities as they showcase our society\u2019s links with the academic world along with our desire to open it up to new collaborations. For the members of the newly elected \u201cbureau\u201d, as for its predecessors, the aim is to welcome doctoral students and teacher-researchers, specialists in English literature, but also in art, history and comparative literature, academics and enlightened \u201camateurs\u201d. We want our \u201cconversations\u201d, to use a term dear to the author of Orlando<\/em> (on the Agr\u00e9gation syllabus) to be faithful to Woolf’s spirit: demanding, yet accessible to the \u201ccommon reader\u201d, open to the future without erasing the trace of the past, grounded in a spirit of democratic collaboration and openness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same spirit, our website aims to give greater visibility to the various events that feature on it, thanks in particular to the talent of our webmaster Charl\u00e8ne Dancoisne (c.dns@mailfence.com<\/a>), who can welcome, along with our treasurer Ad\u00e8le Cassigneul (adele.cassigneul@hotmail.fr<\/a>), our Vice-Presidents Marie Laniel (marie.laniel@gmail.com<\/a>) and Val\u00e9rie Favre (vrfavre@gmail.com<\/u><\/a>) and our Secretary Floriane Reviron-Pi\u00e9gay (floriane.reviron.piegay@univ-st-etienne.fr<\/a>), information and recommendations from members of the society, as well as from those interested in making Woolf’s work known in all its complexity and contemporaneity. It’s easy to join our society by clicking on the appropriate tab, whether you\u2019re a doctoral student, teacher, researcher, or simply interested in our activities. Your membership (25 euros, and 17 euros for master’s and doctoral students) is a way of supporting our projects and the dissemination of Woolf scholarship in France and abroad.
