Présentation de la SEW

Bienvenue sur le site de la SEW !

Ever since it was founded by Christine Reynier in 1996, the SEW has been working to promote the study of Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Circle in France, and to further links between Woolf scholars in France and their counterparts abroad.

Although only a small society, the dedication of its founding and more recent members has enabled it to make its mark in French academic circles and beyond. Over the past 20 years international conferences have been held at Cerisy, Paris, Montpellier, Toulouse and the books or journal issues emerging from these attest to the richness and diversity of Woolf studies in France.

The SEW holds colloqiums every two years and study days often preparing the ground for conferences, or addressed to doctoral students, on an annual basis. The present committee is keen to maintain the rich working atmosphere established by its predecessors, one that is both vibrant and challenging, welcoming research students and renowned specialists as well as Woolfians working in the arts. In this context we hope to reflect the research interests of all members, new and old, to continue developing trans-disciplinary Woolf studies and embracing wider Woolf, whilst maintaining the focus defined by the specificity and intellectual context of SEW working members.

The SEW website aims to extend networks more efficiently and easily, and our grateful thanks go to all those who contribute to it. We hope browsing Woolfians will find the information they are seeking, and will feel free to contact our webmaster at <c.huerre.dancoisne@gmail.com> to suggest possible resources or links that might be made available. We trust that information relating to our publications, study days, conferences and the announcement of Woolf events held by colleagues in other countries will continue to be made accessible to all and that potential members will contact our secretary at <marie.laniel@gmail.com> and join us for the promising ventures ahead.
